We have returned!

Greetings from Zambia!

Well, it's been quite a trip, folks. I've seen a lot, done a lot, and learned a lot.

We accomplished our task, which was to build walls for Lighthouse Christian School. And boy, did those walls go up! We finished about half of the overall structure, a large school complex with (I believe) over five class rooms and lots of offfices. It was fun to work and laugh with the local masons, as well as the other guys on the team. It was obvious that God blessed the work of our hands. I was also able to visit the School's present meeting place, and it served as a good motivator to work hard. This new building will be around three times as large! That means that more children can be enrolled, and more lives can be reached with the power of the Gospel! I love to think about the many people that this school will affect in the coming years. Speaking of the future, I don't think I've seen the last of Zambia. There's still half a school to be built, and I would just love to be on the team that gets to go back.

Operation 13/28 accomplished. Thank you so much to everyone that contributed! Whether it was through money or prayer, your contributions were appreciated more than you could imagine!

Drumroll please!

Folks, in just two days, I leave for Zambia!

Today has been packing day, which involves a lot of hunting/gathering (very primal. :-)). We also started our anti-malarial medication. One thing I've learned so far is that it's much harder to do a trip like this now than it was five years ago. Airport regulations are getting tighter and tighter. Apparently I'm not even allowed to have a regular sized box of Cheezits in my carry-on bag. Oh well.

Anyway, I would like to publicly thank EVERYONE who has contributed in one way or another. Financial donations are incredibly important, but prayer is just as valuable. Please do not stop praying!

We're getting closer!

We are homing in on the end! I only have $450 left to reach $3000! To me, that is nothing short of astonishing. Why? Because there is no way that I could ever save up that much money in so short a period of time on my own. That means that God has been behind this the whole time! By working on folks' hearts, he has been giving me all that I need to take His mercy to Zambia.

WOW!

I think I've got to say that again.

WOW!

Here's the scoop.  Today, my Dad and I recieved an astonishing amount of donations.  They totaled about $2000! When I saw the email from the secretary who is keeping track of the team's accounts, my jaw hit the floor.  This is huge for me, and huge for my dad.  

So, we are finished with phase one of our fundraising, and heading into phase two!  

As always, please continue to pray for God's help as we enter this new stage.

Mt. Lebanon Rotary Club!

Well, this morning I had the oppurtunity to speak to the Mt. Lebanon Sunrise Rotary Club about supporting me for this trip.  I'm pleased to say that they enjoyed my presentation, and (I think) were leaning heavily towards giving me a donation.  

I believe that my dad and I are going to be getting some more health stuff finished today.  Maybe some shots.  Wahoo!

A little update

Hey all,

Today, my dad and I are going to be visiting the businesses on Washington rd. in Mt. Lebanon to raise funds for the trip.  Please pray that we would have favor with the store owners, and that God would just open the purse strings for us.  

Also, this Wednesday I am going to be speaking to the Mt. Lebanon Rotary Club in the hopes of recieving a donation from them.  Please pray similarly for this event.

My name is Andrew Calvetti, and on behalf of Mitchell Pierson and Alaina Webber, I welcome you to our blog.

If our title is leaving you scratching your head, I hardly blame you. Operation 13/28 does seem like a rather desultory blog title. Please allow me to explain.

13/28 is the latitude and longitude of Ndola, Zambia. No, this is not where I live. But, this is where Covenant Mercies is sending a missions team this summer. This team is going to be constructing a building for Lighthouse Christian School, which is a school for children who have been orphaned by AIDS. My church, Providence Church of Pittsburgh, is supplying the people for this missions team. Along with my dad, and some twenty other people (including Mitchell and Alaina), I will be leaving for Zambia in the month of July. Right now, we working through the fundraising process, which includes this blog. If you feel that God is possibly calling you to donate to our cause, all that we ask is $13.28. If you cannot give financially, I would ask you to pray for our trip. Here are some specific areas that need prayer

• That God would provide for all the financial needs of each and every person going on this trip
• That God would be working in the hearts of those who are going to recieve us in Zambia
• That we would experience the protective hand of God while we are on our trip
• That God would ultimately use us to show forth his glory in a crooked and twisted world
